Desktop as a Service ( DaaS) is tipped for take-off over the next decade with companies aiming to switch 20 percent of their on-site virtual network customers to cloud-based DaaS offerings by 2023, suggests Gartner research.

The start of the Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic where they are clearly not equipped to provide their customers with a suitable work from home or remote working site. Cloud Storage can overcome this lack of preparedness by allowing a “switchover” from an on-site desktop to a cloud-based one to ensure no loss in consumer productivity.

From a user’s view, IT needs to be mindful of three problems ‘designed for the cloud’:

  • Staging of applications: discover software in use and deploy them from the cloud
  • Staging of the user environment: collect user accounts and rules, and plan for a zero-downtime interface disruption
  • Staging of data written by the user: ensuring that mission critical data is not left behind

Let’s consider  every step above and divide them up into what you need to do.

This requires a full inventory of applications currently in use. So, among those features, which ones would be compliant with the current operating system. This is also a timely time to investigate if there is a better way to handle future delivery of applications to reduce the workload for management.

Your most valuable client is your product, so planning the user experience is a vital part. You ought to be able to access user accounts from current Windows sessions with precision. You will also protect user-authored data by keeping it reliable and stable, with user-following rules and not the website. And, lastly, during a migration, you want to keep your users productive.

As discussed above, when you evoke cloud staging with web-centric infrastructure and best practices, you ensure that the enterprise is primed for whatever workspace transition lies ahead for the rest of 2020 and beyond.
