UGC NET eligibility criteria
In the national eligibility Test conducted by NTA (special agency set up for competitive exam); interested candidates must have completed their post-graduation or Ph.D. in the relevant subjects with not less than 55% marks. However, candidates belonging to a non-creamy layer of other backward classes(OBC), scheduled caste (SC), scheduled tribe(ST), persons with disability(PWD), and transgender category have to score at least 50% marks.

General paper 1, Paper 2 is based on the subject the candidate chooses and general paper 1 is common for all the aspirants.
Ever since NTA has started conducting the exam, UGC NET is conducted in online mode as a computer-based test(CBT)only.
The difference in the approach of UGC NET and JRF
NET there is no as age limit, however for JRF, a general candidate has to qualify it before 30years. SC, ST, OBC, PWD, Transgender, and women candidates are given an age relaxation of up to 5 years.JRF award is valid only for 3 years from the date of declaration of result and the candidate must take admission in some institution to avail the fellowship. However NET is a valid lifetime.
The basic benefit of qualifying UGC NET is that through NET candidates can apply for teaching in various colleges across India. But, if candidates are awarded Junior research fellowship JRF then they have the following additional benefits
- They are not required to give the written test when applying for M Phil.
- They can apply for Ph.D. otherwise many universities don’t allow for Ph.D. if they do not have JRF
- If they do a Ph.D. or M Phil then they get a monthly stipend of around 31000 with JRF.
- While they are pursuing M.Phil they can also teach in a college with JRF.
How to crack NET
- study the previous year’s question papers to know the type and range of questions asked
- prepare a study routine for each paper focus more on subjects that have higher representation
- prepare notes while studying as it helps the candidate retain a lot of what we read. Say no to guide book take practice book to solve as many as questions.
- prepare every topic in detail as the question can come from everywhere always start from the first page and read each and every.
- Keep practicing and improve the weak areas as it is obligatory to eradicate the weak points.
- Summarise all the points in mind and do not get confused.
